How Nick Won the Mets MiLB POY award

For the past couple of years I've had the pleasure of working with Nick Morabito on the mental side of the game. Just a few days ago he got named the Mets Minor League Player of the Year.

I thought it would be great to show players, parents and coaches the exact ‘process’ we came up with before the season started. He agreed and gave me the go ahead, so here it is. (to see all of the images from my Instagram post, click HERE)

First, we started with ‘outcome’ goals and then most importantly his ‘process’ goals that would give him the best shot to achieve those outcomes.

The most important goal for him was to stay healthy, so he had a specific recovery process that increased those odds. The arrow pointing towards 8+ hours of sleep was a BIG part of that. We developed a set PM routine that helped him optimize what I call "the #1 performance enhancer"…quality SLEEP.

Also, as you can see, for one of the outcome goals he wrote down in all caps: “METS MINOR LEAGUE POY”

That outcome goal is not 100% in his control, but consistent discipline with his process is what gave him the best shot to accomplish that.

As I told him and tell all other players who come through the MLM program, it really all comes down to this...

- Determine what you want
- Determine what it will take to get what you want
- Determine if you’re willing to ‘pay the price’ to get what you want
- If so, then ‘pay the price’ by showing up everyday and following the process you developed

While his entire process was important, I think the other two arrows were possibly the most important.

More deposits than withdrawals simply means that when he does what he KNOWS he should do, he makes a deposit into his ‘mental bank account’.

When he let’s his feelings drive the show, and he doesn’t do what he knows he should do (such as put the phone down, stretch, eat healthy, etc.), that is a withdrawal.

The key here is knowing we are ALL imperfect and will have withdrawals from time to time. It’s all about having way more deposits than withdrawals at the end of each day.

The other arrow of ‘less social media’ doesn’t need any explanation. Less phone/less social media is HUGE.

Couldn't be more proud of Nick Morabito for being a great example to all.

Until next time,

-Brandon
